Stop Smoking Using Medication
from:Trying to stop smoking is very difficult as anyone who has attempted to smoke can tell you. To make matters worse, the average person tries to quit five times before they actually do. Those are tough odds. However, you can make quitting a little easier by visiting your doctor. Your doctor knows of a few medications that can help you quit smoking. These medications can help get rid of the cravings, can make the symptoms less obvious or can make them disappear altogether and can turn you into a non smoker provided you follow the prescription’s directions. However, you should know that many of these medications to stop smoking are not without side effects so you should discuss these with your doctor before you turn to any medications to stop smoking.
Symptoms Of Quitting
If you quit cold turkey, you can expect many symptoms that are very hard to deal with. First of all, there is the terrible sense of loss. They say quitting smoking is not unlike the death of a loved one. You will go through a period of deep mourning. You will have nightmares and you may even encounter insomnia. You will have weight gain, with the average person gaining ten to fifteen pounds or more. You will also go through a period where you will not be very pleasant and many people may decide to avoid you while you’re going through this tough time. Using medication to stop smoking can alleviate some or all of these symptoms but they may have side effects of their own.
Side Effects
Some side of effects of medication to stop smoking may include headaches, stomach aches, rapid heart beat, hot flashes, or anything else as listed by the medication’s manufacturers. If you experience any of these side effects while taking these medications to stop smoking, tell your doctor immediately. He or she may take you off the medication or put you on a new one. However, sometimes these side effects will go away over time but your doctor should make the decision to continue the medication’s use.
If you are not looking forward to quitting smoking but you really want to, turn to your doctor to see about getting on a medication to stop smoking. You never know, the medication could work so well that you could become a non smoker in no time at all with little to no symptoms or side effects. It’s worth a try, especially if you’re one of those people who has tried to quit several times only to go back to it after a few months.
